Graduate Program in Tropical Medicine and Infectious Diseases

 

Presentation

The Graduate Program in Tropical Medicine and Infectious Diseases at UFTM has two concentration areas – i) Clinics of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases and ii) Applied Parasitology and Immunology.

In 2009, 2010 and 2011, this program was rated “Very Good” (score 5) by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), which is responsible for the expansion and consolidation of Graduate programs in Brazil.

Based on this assessment, our program is ranked among the main Brazilian graduate programs, standing out for its excellence in scientific production, with high national and international impact.

Objectives

To train Master and PhD students for Health Schools, Public Health Entities and Research Institutions. Graduates will be able to practice teaching and research functions in the area of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases.


Target audience

Students with an undergraduate degree in Health, Biological Sciences and related areas.

Trypanosoma cruzi and T. rangeli Biology and Experimental Models of Chagas Disease

Correlation between HIV and the occurrence of AIDS-defining diseases of endemic or non-endemic nature

Epidemiology and clinical aspects of systemic mycoses

Clinical and epidemiological study and control of Leishmaniasis

Pathophysiology and clinical study of Chagas Disease

Pathophysiology and clinical study of Schistosomiasis

Immunology and genetics of human susceptibility to infectious and inflammatory diseases 

 

Admission requirements

Undergraduate degree recognized by the Ministry of Education in majors of Health Sciences, Biological Sciences or related areas;

Proof of proficiency in English according to the criteria established in the selection process;

For the Applied Parasitology and Immunology Program, candidates must have attended the disciplines of Parasitology and Immunology.
