The Social Work major is intended to train qualified professionals who are capable to cope with social issues on a theoretical-methodological, ethical-political and technical-operative basis. Such professionals will be able to act in the planning, implementation, execution and management of social policies and projects conceived to meet the society demands. The skills and abilities of the graduate are based on principles such as liberty, autonomy, emancipation and development of social individuals – what is assumed as a commitment by the professional category.
Labor market
The acting of the social worker is based on the access to social rights and the sociopolitical organization of population. It may take place in the following areas: education, health, social security, social assistance, housing, environment, public and private companies, legal and social system, social movements, among others. The professional work is directed to the following segments: children and adolescents, family, elderly, women, people with disabilities, individuals at risk and social vulnerability, as well as coping with ethnic-racial issues and cultural diversity.
Admission Options
Sisu - Students who are interested in applying for a place at UFTM must necessarily sign up and take the tests related to the National Examination of High School Education – Enem.
Transfer students - Intended for UFTM students who are attending related majors, as well as for students from other national or foreign higher education institutions who wish to transfer to the same major or to related majors.
Diploma holders – Intended for candidates who have already completed a higher education major and who are willing to attend a new undergraduate major at UFTM.
Readmission – Intended for students who are not enrolled anymore in any undergraduate major at UFTM but wish to return to their studies.
